Summer Reading Program

When you register for our Summer Reading program, it means that you get to take full advantage of a whole summer’s worth of fun and reading!

So come into the library on June 26th to register! You can start by signing up for Summer Reading Challenge, grabbing a Libraries Rock book bag, and picking up a copy of our Community Read Book, Appleblossom the Possum by Holly Sloane.

Children in grades Pre-K to 4 can pick up a FREE copy of Appleblossom the Possum by Holly Sloane. This book is intended to be read as a family, and so we will be giving out one free  book per family.

Grades 5 and up can pick up a FREE copy of the graphic novel Lost Trail: Nine Days Alone in the Wilderness with Donn Fendler and Lyn Plourde. We will be giving out one book per participant.

In addition to opportunities for discussion of this book, we will host related activities, crafts, and speakers designed to help families explore and learn even more, while having fun as a community!

Benefits of joining Newport Cultural Center Summer Reading Program are:

• Children who read for pleasure are stronger readers and better students.
• Children who read at least five (5) books in the summer are more likely to start school ready to learn in the fall.
• Children who do not read over the summer actually lose the reading gains they made the previous year.

Visit the Newport Cultural Center to get your Reading Contact and program guidelines. Track your progress, earn tokens and win prizes as you go!
