“A Seal’s Journey” explores MMoME’s work responding to and assessing animals in the field, the natural history, and identification of seal species, and a look inside our unique seal triage and rehabilitation center! This free presentation also includes interactive activities for children.

Young children along with their parents or adult caregivers will learn basic science concepts with hands-on activities and experiments that celebrate and encourage natural curiosity! Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We will share books and stories, sing songs, do hand-rhymes and make crafts to take home

Science Camp Part II: Coding, Robots, and Sensors – July 10th and 12th

How do human senses compare to robot sensors? Humans have 5 senses but how do they compare to the Maine State Library’s robots and their sensors? Join the Newport Cultural Center and Chris Dorman as we program our robots to act like people using their sensors and our senses!

with the Maine Discovery Museum – Ages 8 and Up

Explore the amazing marvel of the human body! Get the scoop on poop and how your body makes fuel, explore the mysteries of the human heart by dissecting real sheep hearts. Test your brain power, pull DNA strands, be a fingerprint detective and more! Each participating child will receive a backpack with cool science materials and take-home supplies, AND a family pass for FREE museum admission to the Maine Discovery Museum on the GSK Science weekend in August!

Deborah Perkins, a wildlife ecologist who has studied bears throughout North America, brings her adventures to life with stories, science, and pictures in this PowerPoint presentation.

“The Black Ghost: Understanding the Maine Black Bear - an engaging,

informative, and visually dramatic slide show for all ages! I worked for the

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife’s black bear study for a

number of years (which included climbing into bear dens!) and I bring my

adventures to life with stories, science, and pictures.”
