NCC Summer Reading Kick-Off

Help us kick off our summer reading

program with an old-fashioned ice cream social!  Build your own ice cream sundae with all the fixings, then enjoy a story with local author Gretchen Gehrke. Gretchen will be reading her book Tegen Loves

Lacrosse, a simple tale about a first lacrosse practice and a child’s dreams involving the Native American history of lacrosse.

Copies of the book will be available to

purchase for $10.00. For each purchase, a donation will be made to the Jonathan

Bowman Memorial Trust. MidMaine

Lacrosse players with be at the event to talk about their experiences with this great sport, and share information on summer lacrosse programs for youth.

Meet Maine Children’s Author and Illustrator Hazel Mitchell

At this special pet-themed event, children’s author and illustrator Hazel Mitchell will read from her new book Toby, and teach kids how to draw animals and make a doggie craft! Toby is her author-illustrator debut, inspired by her real-life experience with a rescue dog. A representative from the Bangor Humane Society will also be at the NCC to collect donations for their shelter wish list. Help the Humane Society take care of our furry and feathery friends by bringing an item to donate! The NCC will be collecting donations throughout the month of July.
